Final Cut Quicktime workflow



  1. In Final Cut, select the timeline you want to export and click File > Export > XML

  2. In Monkey Extract, select the R3D source, XML file, and destination folders. Click the edit button to change the Monkey Extract Settings.

  3. In the Output Format tab, set format to Quicktime, Codec to Prores, No sub folders, trim unused start and end of clip. Set the filename suffix to match whatever was used in the edit - e.g. _H.mov.

  4. On the Resolution, Scale & Crop tab, change the output resolution. Note that Final Cut and Color have a maximum resolution of 2K - that is a width of 2048.

  5. Click the Color & Gamma tab and adjust color settings as required.

  6. Click Apply settings, and click Extract footage. This begins the rendering process.

  7. In Final Cut, save your project as something new.

  8. In the new project, go to the timeline, select all clips using Apple-A, right click the clips, and select reconnect media

  9. Click location, and browse to the destination folder where you rendered the footage to

  10. Select the matching clips. Untick Matched Name and Reel Only, ignore any warnings about reel and timecode not matching

  11. When all clips from the top window have been assigned to the bottom window, click ok

    The timeline should now contain only the new rendered clips

  12. If you wish to grade the footage in Color, you can select File > Send to > Color
