Final Cut DPX workflow

This workflow is for grading DPX sequences with a fast Raid hard drive.
Final Cut users with a standard hard drive should follow the Final Cut Quicktime workflow.

  1. Export a CMX 3600 EDL or Apple XML from your editing software

  2. In Monkey Extract, select the R3D source, EDL or XML file, and destination folders

  3. Click the edit render settings button to change the Monkey Extract Settings

  4. In the Output Format tab, set format to DPX, folders to one folder per reel, file names to Red file names

  5. On the Resolution, Scale & Crop tab, change the output resolution

  6. Click the Color & Gamma tab and adjust color settings as required

  7. Click Apply settings, and click Extract footage. This begins the rendering process

  8. In finder, navigate to the directory where your original EDL is

Monkey Extract will have created a new EDL with the suffix: _for_grading

  9. Open the new EDL with the grading software of your choice, and import the rendered DPX files
